It’s Friday, here is a good challenge: Just Listen

Challenge of the Day: Just Listen

Some of the things I’ve been learning about the “Awareness exercises” is the challenge of Listening. It’s a hard thing to do, sometimes even harder when you have an opinion to give that is completely different to what the interlocutor is saying. We will face with that almost everyday, sometimes more than once or twice during the same day. I’ve been working on what I call, my level of observation, which is a powerful skill once you realize it. Through “observation” I’ve been more aware of how people react to different subject, how people say no when they want to say yes, how people without saying anything tells you a whole statement that words would not be able to express.

Eat Pray Love - movieI have found as well how certain people are better listener than others. Sometimes, if you look closely,  you can see how people might have a different opinion on a subject and takes a decision not to expose it, without been frustrated about it. You could tell the difference, for example a kid stop himself when he has a different opinion than what his parents are telling him,  but not saying what is on his mind  clearly frustrates him.

The movie, Eat Pray Love (2010) has a great scene when Julia Robert has to spend a whole day without talking. That would be an interesting experience, not talking at all for a day! On the other hand, that would be a day full of listening, with your ear and with your eyes. It would be like an sponge day, just taking in without checking out. Let’s give it a try.

Enjoy the day, here in Montreal is another sunny day with 4 degrees to make it interesting.

See you Tomorrow,
